About
I’m a literary scholar specializing in hemispheric American literatures, modern and contemporary literatures, and the environmental humanities. I received my Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia in 2019; I also hold an M.A. in Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island. My research, which draws upon marine science, history, law, and my own experience at sea, explores the ways that the ocean’s biology, physical dynamics, and fraught cultural histories influence the literature of the Americas. I have taught courses in world literature, American literature, cultural studies, and literature and the environment. I have also taught aboard sailing vessels in the Atlantic and the Caribbean. My most recent article appears in Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and the Environment; I have also published in Coriolis and Blue Water Sailing.
